World Ambassadors and Hosts Aide-Mémoire
When you visit another world, your role is to learn, build understanding and explore whether there is a useful way to work together. You are not there to solve anything, make assumptions, or impose your world’s way of doing things. This is a fact finding mission, you never know you may need work more closely with the other world in the future.
Be clear about:
- What your own world values, needs and wants to protect.
- What your world can offer another world.
- What you hope to learn or achieve through the visit.
- Any information you already have about the world you are visiting.
- Consider how you behave – your world has specific ways of communicating and operating, how will this change when you’re with others, but how will you ensure you keep your own personality intact.
During the visit: learn about their world
Try to understand:
- Their story, identity and what they are proud of.
- Their core values and what matters most to them.
- Their current needs, challenges and hopes for the future.
- Their past experiences with other worlds, including reasons they may be cautious.
- What they need to protect.
Pay attention to:
- How they make decisions and who needs to be involved.
- How they prefer to communicate: direct, careful, informal, relationship-led or practical.
- How they show agreement, disagreement or uncertainty.
- How they build trust: through useful gifts, listening, practical help, information-sharing or time together.
- What might feel respectful, and what might feel like pressure or interference.
NOTE: Consider how you will work together effectively and where there may be conflicting priorities or cultural differences.
